This past Saturday I had the pleasure of shooting my first 5K, the Lakeview 5K in Edison, NJ at Roosevelt Park and Lakeview School. This 5K supports the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities. For years they have been helping people with Cerebral Palsy though schools, adult centers, and more. Their 5K is one of their biggest events and with this being it's 8th year it was one of their biggest yet!
Hundreds of people showed up to participate in the 5k and Walk & Stroll. Before the race began, people could meet the Chick-Fil-A cow and Sparkee from the Somerset Patriots! They also could get a pre-race stretch from Arrow Physical Therapy or participate in a Zumba class.
I even had to make sure i got a photo with Sparkee myself, since his stadium is just down the road from my studio!
The race took off a little after 9:30 am (with several delays due to the start gun not going off!) but everyone was ready and excited.
Split Second Racing handled all of the nitty gritty racing details and did a wonderful job! Our 5k Winner was Bryant Cordova with our Female winner being Susan Kinsella. If you didn't get a chance to view race results they can be viewed here on the Split Second Racing Website.
Our second place winner was actually a team! Chris Lisee ran with his puppet, Shelly the Sheep. Chris ran with Shelly as part of his pledge to raise more money. In his online videos, he said he would run with Shelly if he raised over $500 and he was obviously successful! You can view the video here.
Web Sensation Sparsh Shah showed up to his former school to help with festivities. He opened the event with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. After participating in the 5k with his family, he closed out the race with two more songs, 'Beautiful' by Christina Aguilera and a clean version of 'Lose Yourself' by Enimem from "8 Mile".
Everyone had a great time at the event, tons of people showed up and supported a great cause. Hopefully, I'll see even more of you next year!
